Peep Show

The installation utilizes place - a permanent physical site, as a gateway to non-place. The idea of place serves as a nostalgic device, which is built to support the privacy and safety within the house, the family, and society. But like people, places are permeable. The barriers that hold and conceal also leak and expose. Is the house, then, a shelter for me, or am I the protector of the home? Or are the home and I in fact membranes to non-place?
A Shahre farang is a private experience or exhibition of images viewed through a small hole. Similar to its English translation, peep show, it has transitioned from a traveling showman presenting images of exotic places to the contemporary version - alluding to nudity or pornography.
